To understand how Foot Supports work it is first important to understand the integral structures that make up the foot.

The foot is the most complex mechanical area of the body and it is responsible for absorbing and transmitting enormous mechanic stress as we stand, walk and run. It has 26 bones, 19 muscles and tendons, 107 ligaments, 38 joints, and many meters of arteries, nerves & veins, which may become affected and deformed, over long periods of time, if the bones and arches in our feet fail to support our body weight correctly. As a result, other tissues begin to adapt and take on the effects of mechanical stress when the bones fail to do their job. Over time, deformities such as bunions, hammertoes, heel spurs, calluses, and corns develop as a result of the feet adapting to these abnormal stresses placed upon it.

Custom-made foot Supports are designed, from a plaster cast or mould of your foot, to help support the  bones in your feet, and the arches. They are what we call a "functional device" as they are designed to specifically change the function of your foot. They help place the foot in a biomechanically correct position allowing the muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones to function more efficiently, and therefore reduce and limit abnormal forces that cause pain and discomfort in your feet, lower limbs, back and neck. Because everyone's anatomy and development is different, custom-made Foot Supports are made to meet the variances in structure and function of each individual. They are also designed to suit different activities, as they can be made for sport shoes, work boots, and also dress shoes.
